Opportunities for Human Service

Rho Sigma is much more than a social club. Although it is known more for its athletic achievements and social activities, the Fraternity has the best record of community service on campus. Red Shirts may party hard, but they work hard, too. For example, Rho Sigma's traditional philanthropy, the American Red Cross, was so impressed with the Fraternity's efforts in blood and plasma drives that it awarded the Red Shirts lifetime donor status. During the 1970's, over $40,000 was raised for Group Living Inc. through Rho Sigma's Halloween Spook House. In 1983, Rho Sigma raised more than $162,000 for Clark County Nursing Home -- garnering national media attention in the process. Other philanthropic projects have included Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund), Toys for Tots, Arkadelphia Attention Home, Abused Women and Children Shelter, Twin Rivers Medical Center, Clark County Animal Shelter, Special Olympics, and activities for area youth and seniors. In 2006-2007, Red Shirts raised over $23,000 for charity. The Red Shirts, participating as Team Arkadelphia, helped alumnus Russ Strickland win the fund-raising event, the MS Walk, in both 2007 and 2008. Red Shirts don't just talk the talk -- they walk the walk. Want to make a difference? Be a Red Shirt.
