Recent Activities

Rho Sigma has always been Ouachita's most active fraternity. Even under-manned, we have continued to uphold our Purpose. Unlike the aims of others, our goals remain the same: "CREATING AND MAINTAINING A BETTER SPIRIT OF SCHOOL LOYALTY" We've boosted Tiger Spirit by showing up at all games and pep rallies with our famous cowbells, football run-throughs, running the game ball to an away game, hosting our annual Torchlight Parade and Bonfire pep rally for Homecoming, and guarding the Tiger statue at the All-Night Bell-Ring. In Fall 2007, we introduced the campuswide Battle of the Ravine Festival. When the Tigers need support, we are there. "ENCOURAGING A CONSTANT IMPROVEMENT THROUGH ATHLETICS" Usually, about half of the Red Shirts are involved with varsity athletics, and all of us participate in intramural sports. We have won more intramural championships than any other campus organization. In 2009, we went to the semi-finals in football and lost on a forfeit (the game was scheduled during class hours), captured the basketball championship, and won the softball title. "RECOGNIZING SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT AND EXTRACURRICULAR PARTICIPATION" While it's little known, Rho Sigma has ALWAYS posted a higher GPA than the campus average. We have a long tradition of academic excellence. In addition, we actively encourage participation in campus and community events. Recent service activities have included a fund drive for the Scott Neathery Family, work for Special Olympics, Arkadelphia Human Resource Center, Adams Bookstore, Clark County Animal Shelter, Clark County Nursing Home, MS Walk, and Tiger Serve Day. "FOSTERING FRIENDSHIP AMONG STUDENTS AND BROTHERHOOD AMONG ITS MEMBERS" Providing social recreation for its members is one of the purposes of a fraternity, and Rho Sigma does that extremely well. We sponsor numerous road trips, parties, dances and mixers throughout the year. However, we also provide social events for the entire campus, such as the annual inter-college party co-sponsored with a Henderson fraternity that draws hundreds of guests and costume parties for Halloween. Additionally, we maintain close relations with our alumni through reunions and the annual Homecoming reception. This year, the alumni hosted a tailgate cookout for Homecoming. We often have mixers with Ouachita and Henderson sororities, such as Date Night to an Arkansas Travelers game or the annual Crawfish Boil with E.E.E. For brotherhood, we sponsor a number of Red Shirt-only social events, such as our annual float trip of the Buffalo National River. This event has proved so popular that some of the other campus fraternities have adopted it.
